Urine stains in wooden floorboards or hardwood floors are one of the most difficult stains to remove, and especially when repeated urination has turned the wood dark in colour. The dark spots mean that there is a build-up of dried, urine salts (urine crystals), but also that wood deterioration has already taken place, as acidic urine has bitten into the wood.
Treatment
By performing a few treatments, UF2000 is able to completely remove the urine odour, and can also largely remove the accumulation of dried salt crystals. The damage to the wood, however, unfortunately cannot be remedied by our product. Usually, light sanding and an aftertreatment (with wax or varnish) can make it acceptable again.
Step 1:
Before sanding and finishing with wax or varnish, first remove the urine spot with UF2000. By initially treating the urine spot(s) several times, it will be easier to touch up the stained spot(s) later.
Step 2:
The following instructions for use are for a floor on which several urine spots are present. Start by injecting the urine source(s) with UF2000. Then apply UF2000 to the entire floor. Cover the wet floor with a piece of plastic to prevent the UF2000 from evaporating too quickly. After the UF2000 has been applied, the urine odour usually becomes slightly stronger after some time, this is because the odour comes to the surface. After about 30 minutes, remove the plastic and dry the floor with (paper) towels.
Repeat the treatment after 30 minutes until all urine odour is removed. Each treatment will improve the condition of the surface, as evidence, the dark spots will become lighter and lighter in colour and smaller in diameter until all urine is completely removed. Treat urine spots (sources) separately until all spots have almost disappeared or become lighter, which means the urine has been removed.
Step 3:
Then let the wooden floorboards dry. After the final treatment, wipe the floor with some water and then dry it. By using UF2000, the urine smell will disappear, dark spots will be reduced and it will later be easier to make the floor look new again by sanding and/or treatment with lacquer or wax.
Often, however, after using UF2000, the floor is so clean that post-treatment can be omitted.
